Active ingredient in full scale production with rotating bed reactor

Using immobilized enzymes and rotating bed reactor technology to produce sustainable Capsaicin

XP Chemistries AB is a producer of sustainable Capsaicin, the molecule responsible for the "heat" in the chili peppers. Through their patented process, they valorize biomass such as wood into the active ingredient using biocatalysis. In the early stages, the application was evaluated for compatibility with the rotating bed reactor in SpinChem's laboratories, with capabilities from milliliter scale up to several cubic meters of reaction volume.

The work was continued at XP Chemistries using benchtop equipment from SpinChem, where the reaction was optimized for sustainability and high performance at full scale. Implementing immobilized biocatalysts, XP Chemistries made use of the incredible efficiency of enzymes in converting starting material. Not only do enzymes improve economy, but they can also significantly reduce the footprint of the process by virtue of their longevity and selective catalytic abilities.

The next step was to increase the process scale, accelerating the production rate to supply the strong customer demand. The ProRBR product range allowed XP Chemistries to smoothly transfer their well-developed reaction from the benchtop to 100L scale. Today XP Chemistries are producing capsaicin at high volume and with unique purity, positioning them as the world leading producer of sustainable capsaicin.

XP Chemistries AB (XPC) was listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market on the 29th of October 2021.
